The Correct Way for an Elderly Patient to Sleep

Repositioning the Patient in Bed

Repositioning the patient in bed is a common method in the treatment process for hospitalized patients with limited mobility. There are various positions for patients in bed, which may be determined according to their condition, preference, or the treatment of their illness. The patient positions in bed are listed in the table below.

Straight Spine

The patient lies on the bed with a straight spine. For comfort, you can also add other supportive devices.

Prone Position (Lying on the Stomach)

The patient lies on the stomach with the head turned to the right or left side.

موقعیت مستعد یا دمر روی شکم

Lateral Position (On the Side)

The patient lies on the upper body with the top leg resting on the bottom leg. This position helps relieve pressure on the coccyx

موقعیت جانبی یا به پهلو

Sims Position

The patient lies on the chest with the top leg bent and placed in front of the patient. The arms should rest comfortably beside the patient and not underneath it

موقعیت سیمز

Fowler s Position (45 Degrees)

The head of the patient’s bed is set at a 45-degree angle. The hips may or may not be bent. This is a common position for providing the comfort and care of the patient.

موقعیت فاولر یا 45 درجه

Semi-Fowler s Position

The head of the patient’s bed is set at a 30-degree angle. This position is used for patients who have cardiac or respiratory conditions, as well as for patients with a nasogastric tube or feeding tube (NG tube).

موقعیت نیمه فاولر

Orthopneic (Tripod) Position

The patient sits beside the bed and the head rests on an over-bed table above several pillows. This position is used for patients who have breathing problems.
